FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international non-profit public charity organization that hosts the FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST LEGO Jr. The organization was founded by both Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers back in 1989 in order to motivate students to be future leaders in science, technology, and engineering. Students cooperate and engage in various competitions in order to acquire the skills necessary for innovation. By participating in FIRST, students learn how to compete through cooperation and gracious professionalism. These competitions were strategically designed in order to emphasize the importance of engineering and problem-solving.
